Hyundai Creta vs Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

Now the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross as well as the Hyundai Creta is offered with a multiple engine options. However, the Maruti Suzuki offering is not available with a petrol engine. The S-Cross is offered in seven variants – four trims with the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 engine and three with the 1.6-litre DDiS 320 powerplant. Similarly, the Hyundai too comes with the three trim levels in the 1.4-litre engine option and four variants in the 1.6-litre diesel.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross 1.3 DDiS 200 has been priced between Rs 8.34 lakh to Rs 10.75 lakh while the 1.6 DDiS 320 costs Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 13.74 lakh. The Hyundai offering starts at Rs 9.47 lakh and goes right up to Rs 11.45 lakh for the 1.4-litre trim. The Creta with the larger 1.6-litre diesel has been priced at Rs 11.60 lakh for the base trim and Rs 13.60 for the top-end variant. All prices ex-showroom Delhi. Now that we have the prices out of the way, let’s see what you get for the price paid.

Safety Features

In terms of safety equipment, the lower variants of the Creta come with very few features. It doesn’t get airbags as standard or disc brakes options at the back. In fact, the Creta even in the top-end trim doesn't come with disc brakes at the back. Although the Creta has ABS as standard fitment on all its variants, airbags are offered only from the S+ variants onwards. All three variants of the 1.6 Creta get ABS as well as dual airbags. The top-of-the-line SX(O) variant with the manual gearbox options gets 6 airbags.

The S-Cross on the other hand has ABS and two airbags as standard across its trim range. The Maruti Suzuki offering even gets disc brakes on all four corners, something that the Creta misses out on. So if safety is your priority and you are planning to buy a lower variant, it might be a good choice to pick the S-Cross over the Creta. By virtue of it being an SUV, the Creta also gets Electronic Stability Control, and Vehicle Stability Management control on the top-end SX(O) variant. Lane Change indicator too comes as standard across all the Hyundai Creta variants. What the S-Cross gets though is speed sensing auto lock, something that is absent from the Creta.

Similarly the base Delta variant of the S-Cross 1.6 too doesn’t get alloy wheels.

The Hyundai Creta comes with projector headlmaps in all the 1.6-litre variants. In fact, the Creta even gets cornering lights in all the higher displacement diesel variants. But the S-Cross gets HID type projector headlights just in the top-end trim of the 1.3-litre as well as the 1.6-litre variants.
