Tata Motors is all set to roll out the Nano with cosmetic and mechanical changes as part of the update for its small car for 2014. Christened the Nano Twist, the small car has been updated with a feature which the car urgently required. Tata has updated the Nano Twist with power steering which will act as boon while driving the small car as customers had complained that it wasn’t an easy task to drive and maneuver the Nano in city traffic or while parking it in a tight space owing to its un-assisted steering.

To address this issue, Tata has equipped the Twist with an Electric Power Assisted Steering (ESP). The Nano Twist will be the first car from its portfolio to feature this steering system as all other cars feature Hydraulic Power steering. There hasn’t been any major changes made on the Twist to set it apart from the standard Nano and the only visual difference are the ‘Twist’ and the ‘XT’ badging at the back. The basic layout of the interiors remain unchanged, except for the new instrument console that displays distance to empty, fuel economy as well as the time. Although, the Nano is a car made on budget, Tata hasn’t skimped in terms of features.

It gets equipped with four-speaker music system with Bluetooth connectivity, remote keyless entry aside from two glove boxes on either side of the instrument cluster and funky nine-spoke alloys on the top-end variant. The Nano Twist will be pitched against the Maruti Suzuki Alto800 and the Hyundai Eon in our four-wheeler spectrum. No mechanical changes have been made on the car and it will be powered by the 624cc, inline twin cylinder produces 38PS @ 5,500rpm and 51Nm @ 4,000rpm as found on the standard Nano. Even though these figures cannot be compared with those Alto800 and Eon, one has to factor in power-to-weight ratio which means it doesn’t lose drastically on the performance front. Priced at Rs 2.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Nano Twist is a very good option for a consumer in the market for a no-frills car for regular city driving and one-off highway rides.
