The performance car maker enters the compact SUV segment with the Porsche Macan

Porsche Macan launched in India

Porsche India has introduced its first compact SUV offering, the all-new Macan in the country. Till now the only SUV model in the German carmaker’s line-up had been the Porsche Cayenne luxury SUV range.

Commenting on this occasion, Anil Reddi, Director of Porsche India, said, “With the introduction of the Macan, Porsche offers a real sports car in the dynamically growing compact SUV segment for the first time. I have no doubt that this model will be a success for the brand, catering to our youthful customers in the country, who believe in the philosophy of 'Life, intensified’."

The highlight of the new Porsche Macan is the sports car like driving dynamics the compact SUV brings on to the table, which have become synonymous with the Porsche brand. Many of the design and performance elements have been inspired by the brand’s sports cars, including the iconic 911 and the 918 Spyder. (Also read: Porsche Macan Turbo review)

Porsche India is offering two models of the compact SUV, which are the Porsche Macan Turbo priced at a whopping Rs 1.08 crore and the Porsche Macan S Diesel at Rs 98.18 lakh (ex-showroom Maharashtra). As the top derivative, the Macan Turbo comes with a powerful 400PS, 3.6-litre V6 biturbo petrol engine, which is being used in a Porsche model for the very first time. The company claims a 0 to 100kmph of just 4.6 seconds (with the optional Sport Chrono package), reaching a top speed of 266kmph.

The Porsche Macan S Diesel is the economical long-distance runner of the two Macan models. Its 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine achieves a claimed fuel consumption figure of just 14.5kmpl (6.9 litres/100km) as per the European driving cycle. Nevertheless, the Macan S Diesel accelerates from 0 to 100km in about 6.1 seconds, when fitted with the optional Sport Chrono package, thanks to its 245PS engine. It achieves a top speed of 230kmph.

The range of equipment fitted on the Porsche Macan as standard includes the all-wheel-drive, PDK, multi-function sport steering wheel with shift paddles, high-performance audio system and an electrically operated tailgate. In India, further standard features include air suspension system, lighting package, bi-xenon headlamps as well as three-zone climate control.
