The naked bike shares its powerplant with the Yamaha R15 Version 3.0 which is likely to be launched in India by late 2017

Japanese giant Yamaha has unveiled its latest naked bike, the V-Ixion R, at the 2017 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). First introduced in the Indonesian market in 2007, the V-Ixion is quite popular with 2.5 million units sold till date. Though the V-Ixion employs a liquid-cooled 149cc engine, the new V-Ixion R uses the same engine as found on the Yamaha R15 Version 3.0. The 155.1cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected SOHC engine produces 19.3PS of power at 10,000rpm and 14.7Nm of peak torque at 8500rpm. The engine also uses Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology which ensures optimised and linear power without compromising on fuel efficiency. The power is transferred to the rear wheel via slipper clutch linked to a six-speed transmission. Also Read - Yamaha FZ25 Review

The bike employs a perimeter frame for optimal handling, and suspension duties are taken care of by traditional forks up front and monoshock suspension at the rear. The front wheel uses a 90 section tubeless tyre while the rear uses a 130 section unit. When it comes to equipment, the V-Ixion R gets a fully digital instrument console with shift light and hazard light function. Both headlamp and tail-light are LED units. The bike also comes with a USB-charger to power mobile phones and other electronic devices. The exhaust in the V-Ixion R is shorter than the one found on the V-Ixion and is designed to look more sporty.

It is unlikely that the bike will come to India as the costs will be prohibitive. Moreover, Yamaha already offers the Yamaha FZ-25, which has a bigger, more powerful engine and is available at an affordable price. However, it is speculated that the upcoming India-bound R15 Version 3.0 will employ a traditional front fork, just like this bike to keep the cost competitive.

The bike is available in three colours- Matte Red Black, Blue Silver and Green White. Yamaha says the bike has been developed by weighing the input of the consumers and hence the bike promises to be versatile enough to be a commuter as well as a tourer. But with an 11-litre fuel tank, it isn’t exactly a long-range mile muncher. On the plus side, the kerb weight is just 131 kg, which should translate into better efficiency and acceleration when compared to its rivals.
