Will Yamaha’s flagship naked streetfighter come to India?

Yamaha's stall was action packed at Auto Expo 2018 with the launch of the Yamaha R15 V3.0 and the 2018 Yamaha YZF-R3. Along with these the Japanese manufacturer also showcased the Yamaha MT-10. The motorcycle currently leads the charge for the company's Hyper Naked motorcycle range.

The Yamaha MT-10 displays raw aggression from every angle with its muscular bodywork. It sports numerous cuts and slots across its design to give it a mean streetfighter look. At the front, it sports LED headlamps, on top of which sits a fully digital instrument console. The LED treatment is carried over to the back as well.

Powering the MT-10 is a lightweight 998cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled, inline-four engine. It makes 160.4PS of power at 11,500rpm and 111Nm of torque at 9000rpm, and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It also features an assist and slipper clutch along with a Quick Shifter System (QSS). Some of the electronic highlights include three-mode traction control and three-level Yamaha D-mode system, which allows the rider to tune the engine response according to his preference, with just a push of the button.

The MT-10 comes equipped with the famous Deltabox frame suspended upon 43mm USD forks at the front and a link-type monoshock unit at the back. Braking duties are handled by ABS-equipped 320mm dual discs up front and a single 220mm rear disc.

If launched in India, the MT-10 is expected to carry a premium price tag of around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete against the BMW S1000R and the 2018 Triumph Speed Triple, which hopefully will come to our shores too. With the launch of the Yamaha MT-09 last year, it certainly isn't far-fetched to say that the MT10 might make its way here too. But we're still keeping our fingers crossed.
