Gets two additional colours - Matte Green and Darknight - apart from the existing Armada Blue

Yamaha FZS FI Matte Green

Yamaha launched the rear disc brake variant of its popular naked motorcycle, the FZ-S FI, in January this year. Initially available only in Armada Blue, Yamaha now has introduced two new colour options - Matte Green and Darknight - for the 150cc motorcycle. Interestingly, the two new colour options are priced at a premium of Rs 1,000 over the existing Armada Blue paint scheme, which retails for Rs 86,042 (ex-showroom Delhi).

What’s also worth mentioning is the fact that Yamaha had launched the FZ-S FI with the Darknight paint scheme back in September last year. However, it lacked the option of a rear disc brake back then. Apart from the new colours, the motorcycle remains unchanged.

The Yamaha FZ-S FI features a 149cc, SOHC, 2-valve, air-cooled, fuel-injected heart. It produces 13.2PS of power at 8000rpm and 12.8Nm of torque at 6000rpm. The engine also gets Yamaha’s ‘Blue Core’ technology, which essentially improves the combustion and cooling efficiency while reducing power loss.

A 5-speed transmission sends power to the rear wheel via a chain drive. Braking duties are handled by a 282mm disc at the front, like in other variants, while the rear features a 220mm disc. However, it lacks ABS and CBS. Priced at Rs 87,042, the FZ-S FI competes with the Suzuki Gixxer ABS variant (Rs 87,250), the standard version of the Honda CB Hornet 160R (Rs 85,643), the Bajaj Pulsar NS 160 (Rs 82,624) and the rear disc variant of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V (Rs 85,535).

Apart from the new colours for the FZ-S FI rear disc variant, Yamaha also launched the YZF-R15 V3.0 MotoGP Edition as a part of a campaign called “The Call of the Blue’. Speaking about the initiative, the chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group of companies, Motofumi Shitara, said, “Yamaha’s global corporate mission of realizing kando should be expressively achieved through all of its products or related experiences. Being a #CustomerFirst brand, it is our duty to create delightful experiences for customers that can enrich their lives in the long run. The launch of “The Call of the Blue” should convey Yamaha customers or any customer of two wheelers about the brand’s commitment to provide highly advanced technology as well as treasuring style through its two wheelers. The launch of new products under the campaign launch will offer exciting experiences put together by the Yamaha uniqueness.”

The ‘Call of the Blue’ campaign involves promotional activities, both online and at the dealership-level. Through this initiative, the Japanese brand intends to increase its popularity in the country. Apart from launching the campaign, Yamaha also commenced deliveries of the recently-launched Cygnus Ray ZR Street Rally edition, which is priced at Rs 57,898 (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
