Yamaha FZ250 Teaser Image Leaked

Yamaha India had sent out an invite for a motorcycle launch last month but didn’t divulge any information about the upcoming two-wheeler. Now, a Yamaha dealer has released the teaser image of the upcoming motorcycle and we can confirm that Yamaha will ride in the new FZ250 on January 24 into the country.  The new motorcycle will be an important bike for the Japanese two-wheeler giant as it will be the most powerful Yamaha bike to be manufactured in India. We expect the new Yamaha FZ250 to be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh ex-showroom. [Update 24/01/2017: Yamaha has launched the FZ25 in India at Rs 1.19 lakh].

From the spy shots posted online, we can confirm that the Yamaha FZ250 will have a muscular street-bike styling that is based on the 150cc FZ motorcycle range. The design highlight of the motorcycle has to be the fully-LED headlight, making the FZ250 the second locally built bike to offer it after the Bajaj Dominar 400. The stubby exhaust muffler is also similar to the one found on the Yamaha FZ Version 2.0, but is beefier. The underpinnings of the new Yamaha FZ250 will be shared with the Fazer 250 that is currently sold in the Brazilian market. The motor is also likely to be the same 249cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected mill delivering 20.7PS of max power and 20.4Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed gearbox.

The above numbers mean that the new Yamaha FZ250 won’t go at a scorching pace like the KTM 200 Duke but will have a more subtle and rider-friendly nature. Suspension duties will be handled by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. ABS has been given a miss to keep cost low. The Yamaha FZ250 will compete against the Mahindra Mojo, Bajaj Dominar 400 and the KTM 200 Duke.
