There’s good news for Yamaha enthusiasts as the Japanese two-wheeler giant has sent out a ‘block your date’ for the launch of its new motorcycle. The bike in question is the new FZ250 that was spotted testing last month. The new Yamaha FZ250 will be the highest displacement and, understandably, the most powerful Yamaha bike to be manufactured in India. From the test mule that was spotted, we can confirm that the bike will be a streetbike and the styling will be inspired from the FZ-S Version 2.0 and the M-Slaz. The bike sports a petite looking, fully-LED headlamp which will make it the second locally built bike to offer the same, after the new Bajaj Dominar 400. The chiselled fuel tank with extensions, stepped seats and a sleek looking tail unit are some of the design highlights of the bike. The stubby exhaust muffler is also similar to the one found on the Yamaha FZ Version 2.0 but is beefier.

The underpinnings of the new Yamaha FZ250 will be shared with the Fazer 250 that is currently sold in the Brazilian market. The motor is also shared and the 249cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected mill delivers 20.7PS of max power and 20.4Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed gearbox. From the above mentioned specs, we can figure out that the new FZ250 will be tuned to suit relaxed riding rather than being a proper hooligan like the KTM 200 Duke. Suspension duties will be handled by telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear.

It also features disc brakes at both ends, but ABS seems to be have been given a miss, to keep costs low. Yamaha India might also export the FZ250 to other Southeast Asian countries in the near future. Pricing has never been Yamaha’s forte and we expect the new FZ250 to be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh ex-showroom. In terms of competition, the Yamaha FZ250 will rival the likes of the Bajaj Dominar 400, Mahindra Mojo, KTM 200 Duke and the Benelli TN25 with respect to pricing.
