India Yamaha Motor today launched a new quarter-litre naked sport motorcycle, the FZ25. What makes the FZ25 a very important product are the facts that it carries the already popular 'FZ' brand name and comes in one of the fastest growing motorcycle segment in the Indian two-wheeler market. While the front fascia looks inspired by the bigger MT series bikes, the rest of the styling takes cues from the smaller FZ series bikes. Let's check out the top five points of this new entrant in the fierce market space.

Powering the FZ25 is a 249cc, single cylinder, air-cooled engine that is oil-cooled for better performance. The motor comes mated to a five-speed transmission that works quite smoothly, with a wet-multi plate clutch assembly like many other Yamaha bikes. The fuel-injected motor delivers 20.9PS of power at 8,000rpm and the peak torque of 20Nm also comes early at just 6,000rpm. Moreover, the bike has a wet weight of just 148kg, providing it with a good power-to-weight ratio for its class.

Price and Competition:

The bike comes in the entry-level quarter-litre segment that comprises of offerings starting from 200cc performance bikes. Starting from products like the Apache RTR 200 4V, the FZ250 will also compete with the bigger Bajaj Dominar 400 as it is costlier by just Rs 14,000. It will eat into the sales of the higher priced premium products like the KTM 200 Duke and the Benelli TNT 25 and will also compete with the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar NS200 FI, which will be slightly cheaper than the FZ25.

We can't say that the Yamaha FZ25 is loaded with features but it has a decent amount of it for its price point. The bike gets full LCD instrumentation that shows instant and average fuel economy, along with basic features like an odometer, speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and trip meter. The console also features a digital clock. Another interesting feature of the bike is an LED headlamp with Auto Headlamp On (AHO) feature. The bike misses out on ABS even as an optional extra, however, the company is working on getting this feature in the first update.
