The performance-oriented R-Design cars get sporty chassis for a more energetic drive experience

Volvo S90 R-Design

Swedish luxury car manufacturer, Volvo, has unveiled the S90 & V90 R-Design variants for the first time, and boy, do they look gorgeous! The S90 was launched a few weeks ago in the European market, while the V90 – the estate version of S90, was recently introduced. The R-Design trim, however, is yet to be launched, but it’s not far away.

The R-Design cars have been revealed in Volvo’s signature royal blue colour, which is characteristic to the R-Design vehicles. Both the S90 and the V90 embrace Volvo’s latest design philosophy that focuses on a simple and elegant execution of lines and curve. The design is subtle, but the R-Design’s treatment pushes the envelope for a sportier appeal.

Like every other R-Design vehicle, these two also feature minimalistic changes over the standard cars. The V90 and S90 get an advanced sports chassis with the ‘R’ trim, which will enable them to behave sharply in terms of road hugging and handling capability.

On the aesthetics front, the R-Design trims get a darker exterior and interior layout, thanks to the deliberate use of black-coloured materials. The front of the car gets a new bumper layout with aggressive fog lamp enclosures on either side. The sides, too, flaunt sporty diamond cut alloy wheels. The rear bumper, just like the front end, features piano black trim on exhaust tip's enclosures. The insides are done up in all-black layout with selective use of silver accents while the seats carry more bolstering to support the back and inner thighs.

Volvo V90 R-Design

“R-Design delivers an edge to our elegant estate and saloon models in our 90 Series, with a winning combination of a sportier, more responsive drive with clearly visible performance styling,” said Björn Annwall, senior vice president of marketing, sales and customer service at Volvo Cars.

The Indian launch of the S90 sedan might take place by the end of this year, however, chances of the V90 estate coming are bleak. And, oh yes, the R-design trim, too, could make it to the country!
