Volkswagen Motorsport India had conducted the first round of the 2016 Vento Cup on June 19 at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore. Now, Round 2 and Round 3 of this season will be conducted on July 17 at the Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT). Notably, two guest racers from Polo Cup China will be forming the grid of Round 2.

Commenting on their come back to the circuit, Sirish Vissa, head of Volkswagen Motorsport India, commented, “It is a pleasure for us at Volkswagen Motorsports to be back at MMRT after three years. Madras track has always been special for us and we have done some pre-season tests here to determine the full potential of the race machine.”

“With a clean start to the season and a new track for the racers it is going to be a treat for the viewers to experience some raw motor sporting action with driving skills at its core. The tie at top will further add excitement to the races,” he added.

The Madras Motor racetrack is a 3.71km long circuit with a width of 11 metres and has 12 corners. Additionally, there is a smaller club circuit of 2.1km that is available for small-scale events. The main track has three straights, with the longest one being 250 metres. Many race cars from the Vento Cup 2016 have been tested on this circuit, but none of the drivers have driven their race-spec Vento's on this track.

The first round of the 2016 Vento Cup witnessed a bunch of aggressive racers. Ishaan Dodhiwala and Karminder Pal Singh stood at the top with 108 points (each) against their names. Keith Desouza and Aditya Pawar tied for the second position with 74 points each, followed by a third tie between Jeet Jhabakh and Amit Mete scoring 62 points.
