Volkswagen I.D. Concept

This year’s Paris Motor Show has some absentees from the world of automotive greats, like Ford, Volvo and Aston Martin. Even Lamborghini and Bentley opted out of the event to revisit their business strategies for different markets. Their parent company VW has been under intense monitory pressure due to the dieselgate scam where it finds itself paying hefty fines to regulatory bodies across the globe. Axing its subsidiaries from attending the Paris Motor Show helps VW save some money. However, VW itself will be a part of the motor show, where the I.D. concept will be officially unveiled.

The I.D. will showcase VW’s new electric drive system and autonomous features. Although the German car firm hasn’t released all the details yet, the I.D. is expected to carry an electric motor which produces around 168PS of power. VW say that the concept has a range between 400 to 600km on single charge and will make its way to the market in 2020 alongside the new-gen Golf.

VW recently stated that it plans to launch more than 30 electric cars by 2025. The I.D. will be the first product to come out of Volkswagen’s new commitment towards electric vehicles. After the I.D. comes to the market, VW says that it will add a fully automated driving mode to the model by 2025. With autonomous mode activated, VW say, the steering wheel will retract into the dashboard to make more room for passengers.

The Volkswagen will also announce a new urban mobility division at the Paris Motor Show, that’s set to become the thirteenth brand of the VW Group.
