Volkswagen has begun a multi-phase reveal of the all-new Polo hatchback headed to international markets

Volkswagen has released the first of the multi-part reveal of the all-new Polo hatchback, the 6th generation of the company's most popular car sold worldwide.

The latest teaser only shows us a drawn silhouette of the new Polo, though the company has shown it in full camouflage before and an uncamouflaged unit of the car has been seen in South Africa

No further details of the car have been revealed except for the silhouette. The spy shots and camouflaged car show that the new Polo will feature reflector-type headlights with LED DRLs, LED taillights and 16-inch alloy wheels. On the inside, the car is expected to get an all-digital instrument cluster, a new infotainment system and an understated but high-quality overall feel.

What we know is that the new Polo will be based on Volkswagen's new MQB A0 modular platform which was first used to make the new Seat Ibiza Mk5. The Polo has grown overall - it is 81mm longer, 69mm wider, 97mm lower (height) and has a 94mm longer wheelbase.

At 4053mm long, the new Polo headed to international markets will most probably not be brought to India - the 4-metre max length rule to avail excise duty benefits here means that the company will have to rework the car heavily to make it feasible. While the Polo will be launched in markets across the world by early 2018, we do not have any confirmed news on when (or if) the new Polo will be brought to India.

Along with the all-new platform, the new Polo will get Euro-6 emission-rule compliant turbocharged engines. These include a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol; a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol; and a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel. Two transmission options are expected to be on offer: a manual (5- or 6-speed) and a 7-speed DSG.
