We earlier brought you news of the Vespa RED making its way to India, and now the Italian scooter maker is finally set to unveil the RED series on October 3, 2017.
If you don't particularly know what Vespa RED is all about, please read through the article for some in-depth insight. In a hurry? Let us give you a quick insight on what it's all about.
To start off with, yes, it does mean that the scooters would be available in red and, no, it just doesn’t end there. Basically, RED is an organisation founded by U2 frontman Bono and activist Bobby Shriver in 2006. Since then, it has raised more than $465 million for the Global Fund, enabling them to help over 70 million people worldwide by offering offer preventive measures, treatments, counselling, HIV tests and assistance services.
Piaggio Group, the makers of the iconic Vespa range of scooters, has a collaborative partnership with RED. Internationally, Vespa sells the iconic 946 – RED to serve this cause and for each model sold, $150 is donated to the Global Fund to fight AIDS. This has enabled RED to provide more than 500 days worth of life-saving HIV medication in sub-Saharan Africa. The medication also helps prevent HIV-infected mothers from passing the infection to their unborn children.
We would also like to point out that the Italian manufacturer sells another variant of the Vespa 946 in India - the 946 Emporio Armani - that is priced at Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Hold your horses though, the company is not getting the 946 RED to India. Instead, the Indian arm has planned to introduce the RED variant as an addition to its existing 125cc and 150cc scooter lineup in India, which includes the VXL, SXL, Elegante and the standard variant of the Vespa scooter.
So if you are looking forward to making some contribution towards a good cause, we suggest you stay tuned for more on the Vespa RED, as the company unravels the benefits of owning one in India.
