The feature will kick in when the SUV crosses the 80kmph mark

  • The teased feature is currently available in more premium cars, including select BMW and Audi models.

  • The XUV700 is the spiritual successor to the three-row XUV500.

  • Production is expected to begin by July-end, likely to be launched by August.

Mahindra has teased a new feature -- LED headlights with high-beam assist-- in its upcoming three-row SUV, the XUV700.

Here’s what we could gather from the video. The SUV will be equipped with speed-sensitive headlights. Once the car crosses 80kmph on the speedometer, an extra set of lights will automatically be activated. This should help with visibility and improve safety at higher speeds.

Currently, the said feature is only available in select premium BMW and Audi models, and it gets activated around the same speed as the XUV700.

In addition to this, the XUV700 will get multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and probably Level 1 autonomous technology with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Other features include a Mercedes-inspired twin-screen setup (that houses the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster), connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, and dual-zone climate control.

The XUV700 will be powered by the Thar’s 150PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 130PS 2.2-litre diesel engines, but tuned differently to produce higher numbers. Transmission options will likely consist of a 6-speed manual and automatic. There will also be an optional segment-first all-wheel drive.

Production of the upcoming SUV will likely start by the end of July, followed by a probable launch in August. Expect it to be priced from Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on other three-row SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus.
