Riding on the recent success of its two-wheelers, TVS Motors launched the Apache RTR 200 4V earlier this year in Chennai; but has remained surprisingly quiet ever since. However, we have now been informed that the bookings of the company’s new flagship offering have started unofficially at a token amount of Rs 10,000.
Bookings will officially commence in the first week of April while there is no word yet on when the deliveries of the bike would begin, added our source.
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V motorcycle was launched in January at a starting price of Rs 88,990 (ex-showroom Delhi). Interestingly, TVS has launched the motorcycle with the option of either a carburettor or fuel injection, making it the first manufacturer to do so. The fuel injected version obviously commands a small premium, and is priced at Rs 1,00,700 (ex-showroom Delhi).
We believe that the Apache RTR 200 has gained immensely from its manufacturer’s partnership with BMW’s biking wing. The design of the bike clearly draws inspiration from the BMW G310R, which gives it a very unique look compared to its Indian competitors.
At the time of the launch, the Apache 200 RTR did not feature an ABS. However, the ABS-equipped version is expected to also be introduced in the near future.
What makes things more interesting is that the Apache RTR 200 is powered by an all-new 200cc oil-cooled engine developed completely in-house. Power outputs marginally differ between the carburetted and the fuel injected versions with the latter churning out 21PS, half a PS more than the former. Peak torque produced is identical at 17.5Nm.
With this segment witnessing a gradual flourish in India, the bike is set to vow many an Indian customer. For success though, the TVS Apache 200 RTR 4V will also have to fend off competition from heavyweights like the KTM 200 Duke and the 2015 Zigwheels Bike of the Year the Bajaj Pulsar AS200.
