The Akula will share the same platform as the upcoming BMW G 310 R, but is expected to make its debut before the BMW offering

TVS Akula Spied

The TVS Akula has been spied out in the open for the first time, on the outskirts of Bangalore. This bike is TVS’ first fullyfaired motorcycle, and was heavily camouflaged when it was spotted testing. The front fascia of the test bike looks similar to the concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year. The Akula shares the same production platform as the upcoming BMW G 310 R.

The Akula was first showcased as a racing bike concept, but, now, the production model will be slightly different than the concept. The bike will get a split seat and split pattern headlamp, both of which were missing on the racespec model. TVS Motors might also replace the inverted front forks with conventional ones, to cut down costs.

Speaking about the engine, the Akula might use the same unit that powers the BMW G 310 R: a 313cc, liquidcooled, singlecylinder engine that makes 34PS of power and 28Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6speed gearbox. ABS might be an optional safety feature on the Akula.

When the TVS Akula is launched it will have rivals like the Yamaha YZFR3, KTM RC 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300 in the Indian market. TVS Motors has reportedly decided to launch this bike in Indian markets by late 2017, before the G 310 R makes its debut.
