Iconic British motorcycle maker Triumph Motorcycles has confirmed that it will be returning to the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats in August this year to break the world motorcycle land speed record. The salt flats of Bonneville are located in the United States of America. Triumph aims to beat the current speed record that stands at 376.363 mph or, in metric terms, 605.697 kmph. It aims to do so using its purpose-built Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner that puts down the power figure of a bit more than 1000PS.
Riding the purpose-built Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner on the Bonneville Salt Flats will be Isle of Man TT racer and holder of multiple speed records Guy Martin. The Triumph Infor Rocket features a carbon Kevlar monocoque construction with two turbocharged Triumph Rocket III engines producing a bit more than 1,000PS combined at 9,000 rpm. The motorcycle is 7772.4mm long, 600mm wide and 914.4mm tall. The bike is powered by methanol and it will compete in Division C (streamlined motorcycle) category.
Triumph has a history of breaking land speed records, holding the title of ‘World's Fastest Motorcycle’ between 1955 and 1970, with only a brief period of 33 days in which it did not, with bikes such as the Devil's Arrow, Texas Cee-gar, Dudek Streamliner and Gyronaut X1. The current record is held by Rocky Robinson since 2010, who took the Top Oil-Ack Attack streamliner to a top speed of 605.697 kmph.
Guy Martin commented, "I can’t wait to take the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner onto the salt at Bonneville for the first time this summer. The Triumph engineers have built an amazing machine, giving us the very best chance to beat the two-wheeled land speed record."
Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India said, "We are very excited that Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner is going to attempt the new world land speed record. Triumph Motorcycles is one of the fastest growing premium luxury automobile brands in India as we have over 3,000 customers in 30 months of operation in the country. Our customers have been eagerly waiting for this and I am sure this an exciting news for them as well as other motorcycling enthusiasts."
