Triumph unveiled a snazzy Bobber a couple of months back, whose simplicity and beauty left us spell bound. Though Triumph has introduced almost all of its bike in the country, we are intrigued about the Bobber’s launch. And, now we have come to know from a reliable source that Bobber will make it to the country in February 2017.
Bobber bikes are known as performance bikes of the olden days of motorcycling. A bike that has been made by stripping parts of a bike which was originally made to be ridden everyday is, arguably, known as a bobber. And, the same reflects in the Bonneville Bobber as well. A chopped front fender, chopped and shorty exhaust mufflers, saddle seat, single rear shock point towards weight reduction. Further, a loop over the rear fender, a bubble tank, discrete taillights, a custom battery box, wide straight handlebars, lean tucked-in headlamp is all part of a true heritage bobber.
No doubt the bike looks the part, but underneath a classic skin, it hides all the latest technology that one can expect from a Triumph. The Boober’s 1200cc parallel-twin motor is liquid cooled and fuel is injected via a ride-by-wire unit, which mimics a carburettor to keep the classic feel intact. The motor produces 77PS at 6100rpm of power and 106Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Also, the motor is tuned to produce a decent chunk of torque low down in the rev-band aiding in a smooth and relaxed ride.
The bike also features KYB 41mm forks up front and a KYB single shock with linkage on the rear, which carries 100/90-19 and 180/50-16 tyres, respectively. The bike also gets ABS, switchable traction control, road and rain riding modes. The instrument console is a single dial type unit with a small LCD display.
Besides, with all of these features the Triumph Bonneville Bobber will prove a strong competitor to the Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber, which is priced more than Rs 14 lakh. The former, on the other hand, will be priced less than the V9 as the bike is based on the Bonneville T120 which is available at around Rs 9.70 lakh. Provided the Bobber’s exclusive looks and added features, the price could go slightly upwards from this, but not exponentially.
