Toyota to recall 8,700 units of Corolla, Camry

The recall has been made by Toyota in India to rectify problematic power window master switch

As part of the global recall exercise by Toyota Motor Corporation internationally, Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Wednesday voluntarily announced recall of approximately 8,700 units of Corolla and Camry manufactured in India to inspect "Power Window Master Switch (PWMS)."

The company has decided to recall Corolla sedans sold between 30th July 2008 to 31st December 2008 and Camry between 1st of September 2006 to 31st July 2008.

The statement issued by the company on Wednesday said, "On certain Corolla and Camry models of the specified years, the PWMS may begin to feel notchy or become inoperative. This can be due to wear and tear over-time of specific contact points in PWMS."

The recall campaign will be conducted in November onwards, across authorised Toyota dealers in India and the owners of the involved vehicles, covered under this Recall Campaign will receive a notification by letter or call from Toyota.

The company said, the authorised Toyota dealers will inspect and replace (if deemed necessary) at no charge to the vehicle owner. The repair is expected to take an approximately one hour depending on the dealer's work schedule.

Toyota Kirloskar will also notify Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association, as a part of the voluntary code on vehicle recall.

The company says the customer need not panic as it is not a safety hazard but only a precautionary measure, carried out by the company voluntarily.
