The popular sedan has grown more aggressive with this facelift, however, the car will make it to the reality only till the end of 2016 globally

Toyota has revealed the images of the facelifted Corolla Altis which will be incorporated globally in the coming months. The changes are also bound to make their way over to the Indian-spec Corolla Altis, however, they might be a bit toned down.

The facelift includes refinement in terms of the exterior and the interior designing, while the motor options haven’t yet been revealed.

The exterior updates include a sleeker front-end as compared to the current car. The front grille and headlamps look more streamlined and aggressive. Same is the case with the lower airdam that has grown wider and is flanked by round foglamps with tall transverse scoop-like element. This is the result of Toyota’s awkwardly named design scheme ‘Under Priority and Keen Look Design Language’. The sides have remained intact, however, the car now comes with a new set of alloys (16 and 17-inch size option) along with a new chrome garnish. At the back, the facelifted Altis has received LED taillamps and a new bumper layout.

On the inside, there isn’t much to discuss, as the layout of door panels, dashboard and steering have remained intact. Though, Toyota could have introduced the latest generation of the infotainment system, which can be in the Innova Crysta.

Internationally, the facelift boasts several new safety features  such as lane departure alerts, a radar-based pre-collision system that prepares the car in case of an unavoidable accident by tightening the seat belts. It also gets a road sign assist function and an automatic high beam. However, these might not make their way over to India.

Speaking of the Indian launch, we expect Toyota to introduce the car in second quarter of 2017. The Indian version might retain the same 1.8-litre petrol and the underpowered 1.4-litre diesel. The diesel is the same as seen in the Etios and Etios Liva which costs less than half the price of the current Altis.

Toyota Corolla Altis competes with the likes of Skoda Octavia, Hyundai Elantra, Chevrolet Cruze, etc.
