What exactly is the Innova Touring Sport? Here are five major highlights

Toyota Innova Touring Sport

If the Toyota Innova Crysta was not fancy enough for you, the company has now launched the Innova Touring Sport to pique your interest. What's new?

Exterior Design

Toyota Innova Touring Sport

The Toyota Innova Touring Sport is available with only two paint options - Wildfire and White Pearl Crystal Shine. The 'Wildfire' red shade is unique to the Touring Sport.

The silhouette of the Innova Touring Sport is no different from the Innova Crysta, but a plethora of new design elements add a menacing tone. Highlights at the front include smoked headlights with chrome highlights, smoked black grille louvres, chrome grille inserts and partial surrounds, smoked fog lamp surrounds and black lower extensions with chrome highlights.

At the side, the Innova Touring Sport features 5-split-spoke alloy wheels finished in matte black, black cladding on the wheel arches and black side skirts with chrome highlights. The Innova Touring Sport is only available with 16-inch alloy wheels. In fact, the whole Innova range now does away with 17-inch wheels because of complaints from customers about the firmer ride quality when compared to the 16-inch wheels. In my opinion, the 16-inch wheels do make the Innova Crysta look under tyred.

Highlights at the rear include a black garnish which extends between the taillamps, a 'Touring Sport' decal on the tailgate and black bumper extensions with chrome highlights.

Interior Design

The ‘same-but-different’ theme continues on the inside too. The 'sporty' additions on the inside include a faux-redwood insert on the dashboard, red contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel, centre console and gear lever. There is black wood insert on the steering wheel, door pads and the trays mounted on the seatbacks. The instrument cluster gets red-illumination. Compared to the Innova Sport, the overall design is no different.

The Innova Touring Sport is only available as a 7-seater; captain seats on the first and second row and a bench on the third row.

Features

Toyota Innova Touring Sport

The Innova Touring Sport is available in two trim levels MT and AT - which correspond to the Crysta's Vx and Zx variants respectively.

The Innova Touring Sport AT gets cruise control, in-built navigation display, gear indicator, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, front passenger seat easy-slide function and leather seats as compared to the MT variant.

Safety systems on offer include a minimum of 3 airbags (driver, front passenger and driver's knee) and 7 airbags on the top-of-the-line AT. ABS, EBD and a reverse parking camera are also standard. The AT gets vehicle stability control and hill-start assist as added safety features.

Engine and Transmission

Toyota Innova Touring Sport

The Innova Touring Sport is available in four engine-transmission combos. The diesel MT variant is powered by a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled motor developing 150PS of maximum power and 343Nm of peak torque. It is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission with power sent to the rear wheels.

The diesel AT variant is powered by a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged and intercooled motor developing 174PS of maximum power and 360Nm of peak torque. It is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift function.

Toyota Innova Touring Sport

Both the petrol variant of the Innova Touring Sport are powered by a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor developing 166PS of maximum power and 245Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

The engine and transmission options are no different from the ones already available on the Innova Crysta. Efficiency figures of the Innova Touring Sport have not been disclosed, but expect it to be similar to the standard MPV - the petrol AT returns 10.75kmpl, petrol MT returns 11.25kmpl, diesel AT returns 14.29kmpl and the diesel MT returns 15.1kmpl.

Price

Toyota Innova Touring Sport

The Toyota Innova Touring Sport has been priced from Rs 17.79 lakh to Rs 22.16 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The variant-wise breakup is as follows:

Touring Sport 2.7 MT (Petrol) - Rs 17.79 lakh

Touring Sport 2.7 AT (Petrol) - Rs 20.85 lakh

Touring Sport 2.4 MT (Diesel) - Rs 18.91 lakh

Touring Sport 2.8 AT (Diesel) - Rs 22.16 lakh

Compared to the corresponding Innova Crysta VX MT and ZX AT variants, the Touring Sport variants cost Rs 75,000 more. The only additions for the price are the cosmetic updates mentioned above.
