The recently launched Toyota Innova Crysta in its all new avatar has stormed back to reclaim its title as the highest selling MPV in the country. Launched on May 13, the Toyota Innova Crysta has been able to rack up 30,000 bookings in barely two months. Out of this figure, nearly half the orders have been received for the automatic transmission variant. In order to take care of the increasing waiting period the Japanese carmaker is in the process of increasing production of the Innova Crysta to about 7,800 units per month. Also, Toyota’s Indian JV partner Kirloskar group under the Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) alliance have asked its supplier of transmissions to increase the supply of units to meet the demand.

Speaking on the demand of the new Innova Crysta, N Raja, TKM Director and Senior Vice President (Sales & Marketing), said: “Since the launch of the Innova Crysta we have done up to 30,000 bookings, out of which 50 per cent are for the automatic transmission variant. Currently, we have a waiting period of over three months.

"We are increasing production. In May when we started we were producing around 6,000 units. In June, it went up to around 7,800 units. Going forward, depending on demand we expect to maintain that level." he further said when asked how is the company is working to reduce the waiting period.

TKM had initially pegged the demand for the automatic variant of the Crysta to be around 30-40 per cent, but it is presently close to around 50-60 per cent. As mentioned above, the company is in talks with its supplier to increase their production as well. The Innova Crysta has been generating strong sales figures in spite of Toyota’s inability to sell the MPV in Delhi/NCR due to the ban imposed by the Supreme Court on registration of diesel cars and SUVs with engine capacity of 2,000cc and above.

The Innova Crysta clocked sales of 6,600 units in its opening month, which was followed by sales of 8,171 units in June. Speaking of the overall sales in the domestic market, the company has managed to sell 13,502 units in the month of June, a growth of 29 per cent compared to the corresponding month previous year.
