Toyota has recently launched the all-new Innova Crysta in India with two diesel engine variants. Since the implementation of the diesel ban in Delhi-NCR by the Supreme Court in December, the manufacturer has faced a drop in sales figures of the Innova. To resurrect the same, the Japanese car manufacturer will be introducing a petrol variant of the new Innova Crysta by the festive season of Diwali.
Toyota currently sells the Innova Crysta in the international market of Thailand and Indonesia with a 2.0-litre petrol engine. However for India, the company is working on a new 2.7-litre petrol engine. The R&D department is working in conjunction with Japanese engineers to expedite the completion of the new petrol engine. The new petrol engine under development will be first introduced in India followed by other markets.
The MPV has been launched with 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel engines. While the smaller engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, the larger powerplant gets a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift.
The Innova Crysta has been launched in India with a starting price of Rs 13.88 lakh for the base variant which goes up to Rs 20.78 lakh of the top spec model (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). When compared to the previous version of the Innova, the base model of the new Innova is about Rs 85,000 costlier while the top-spec is more expensive by around 1,90,000 lakh, crossing the 20 lakh mark. For its valued customers who already own the previous generation Innova, the company is offering exchange discounts for the same with the Crysta. Since its launch, Toyota has received 15,000 booking for the new MPV.
With the introduction of the petrol variant, Toyota aims to increase its sales figures that had dropped by around 3,000 units in 2015 as compared to its previous financial year. The Innova has been the segment leader and Toyota looks forward to further strengthen it by achieving a sale of around 35,000 units in a month. In India, the new Toyota Innova Crysta faces competition from the Mahindra Scorpio and XUV 5OO, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and Honda Mobilio amongst others.
