  • All three powertrains -- two petrol, one diesel -- will be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms.
  • Overseas, Toyota offers Euro 6 versions of the 2.4-litre diesel and 2.8-litre diesel.
  • BS6 compliant Toyota diesel engines will utilise AdBlue technology for treating emissions.

Toyota India will soon launch the BS6-compliant Innova Crysta MPV in India. Dealerships across the country are expecting the BS6 Innova to hit showrooms in March 2020. However, our sources have informed us that the launch could happen as early as January 2020.

The Innova Crysta is currently available with three engine options: one petrol and two diesel. All three powertrains will be upgraded to meet stringent emission norms. The petrol engine is a 2.7-litre unit while the diesel lineup consists of a 2.4-litre engine and 2.8-litre motor. Have a look at the detailed spec table of all three powertrains:

Innova 2.4 Diesel

Innova 2.8 Diesel

Innova 2.7 Petrol

Power (PS)

150PS

174PS

166PS

Torque (Nm)

343Nm

360Nm

245Nm

6-speed AT

5-speed MT/6-speed AT

Toyota already offers cleaner Euro 6 versions of the 2.4-litre diesel and 2.8-litre diesel engine in its international models. For instance, the international-spec Hilux utilises the Euro 6 2.4-litre diesel engine while the Euro-spec Land Cruiser comes with the Euro 6 2.8-litre diesel engine. Both powertrains utilise AdBlue technology (which is quite expensive) for treating emissions (Nitrogen Oxides).

The India-spec 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel engine is also expected to utilise the AdBlue technology for treating emissions. This could result in the diesel variants receiving a substantial price hike when the upgraded model hits showrooms. We also expect the Fortuner to receive BS6 upgrades soon as it utilises the Innova’s 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel engines.

Currently, the Innova Crysta diesel is priced between Rs 14.93 lakh and Rs 22.43 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). When launched, the Innova Crysta BS6 will rival the Mahindra Marazzo, Tata Hexa and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in the lower-end of the spectrum. On the other hand, it could also lock horns with the upcoming Kia Carnival MPV.
