We had earlier reported that the BS6 Innova Crysta will mostly be launched by January 2020. Now, as per a report, Toyota will start accepting bookings for the BS6-compliant Innova Crysta and Fortuner by mid-January.
The Innova Crysta is offered with two diesel (2.4-litre and 2.8-litre) and one petrol (2.7-litre) engine. The diesel engines are rated at 150PS/343Nm and 174PS/350Nm while the petrol is good enough for 166PS/245Nm. The Fortuner’s 2.8-litre diesel engine puts out 177PS and 450Nm of twist and shares the 2.7-litre petrol unit with the Innova Crysta.
Toyota offers the same 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre diesel engines in markets abroad. These engines make use of AdBlue technology to comply with the Euro 6 emission standards. Going by this we expect Toyota to offer a similar setup for India.
With the BS6 deadline approaching in April, carmakers are already working to update their lineup to meet the new emission norms. Unlike other manufacturers though, Toyota will not be giving up on its oil burners as of now. The Yaris will be the first car from Toyota to get the BS6 update. Although the BS6 version is yet to be launched, all variants of the Yaris now carry a premium of Rs 11,000.
Expect the BS6 updates to come at a cost. In this case, both the Innova Crysta and Fortuner are expected to gain a substantial hike in their prices. The Innova Crysta is priced between Rs 14.93 lakh and Rs 22.43 lakh while the Fortuner retails from Rs 28.73 lakh to Rs 33.85 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
