Toyota Fortuner Bookings Commence

Get your cheque-book ready as Toyota readies itself to launch the new Fortuner on November 7, 2016. Dealerships across the country are entertaining bookings for the new Fortuner with a refundable amount of Rs 1 lakh. This is frankly a sigh of relief for everyone who have been saving money and waiting for Toyota to launch the highly anticipated Fortuner in its new avatar.

A few days back, we saw pictures floating around the web that the new Fortuner has started arriving at several dealerships across the country. This was just the sign that everyone in the industry was waiting for, as the new-gen SUV has a lot to live up to. Its predecessor was quite simply the king of its segment, outgunning all its competition from Ford, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Chevrolet.

The new Fortuner will be powered by the same diesel engines which are offered under the hood of the Innova Crysta. While the smaller 2.4-litre 4-pot turbocharged engine is tuned to produce 150PS of power and a healthy 343Nm of torque, the 2.8-litre 4-pot turbocharged engine pumps out 174PS of power and 360Nm of torque. However, in the international markets, these engines for the new Fortuner have been tuned differently to deliver more torque to hurl the extra weight around. The 2.4-litre motor is tuned to deliver an extra 40Nm of torque to take the total up to 400Nm and the 2.8-litre mill is set-up to produce an additional 90Nm of torque to take the final figure up to 450Nm.

The new Fortuner is expected to carry a price tag between Rs 27-33 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Ford, on the other hand, recently slashed prices of the Fortuner by up to Rs 2.82 lakh. With a starting price of Rs 23.78 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Endeavour is an extremely enticing prospect in the same category. Toyota must price its new Fortuner competitively if it is to recapture its lost market share.
