Top 5 New Two-wheeler Brands That Entered India in 2019

What made these brands stand out from the rest?

 

A number of manufacturers (electric and petrol-powered) entered India in the wake of the electric revolution. Some of them better than others. We’ve listed the top five two-wheeler manufacturers that made a mark in 2019 and gave us vehicles that could possibly change the face of the two-wheeler industry in India: 

 

CFMoto:

Most of you may have already heard of CFMoto, the Chinese brand that surprised everyone with its pricing strategy in India. It entered the country with four new bikes: 300NK, 650NK, 650MT and 650 GT. The first two are streetfighters while the latter are adventure tourers.   

But that’s not the interesting bit. What really hits the nail on the head is how these bikes are priced. The 300MNK, for instance, costs Rs 2.29 lakh while the middleweight 650NK is priced at a staggering Rs 3.99 lakh. Same goes for the 650MT, which will set you back by Rs 4.99 lakh, and they're all introductory prices (ex-showroom India). The CFMoto 650GT gets a sticker price of Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom India), but its price isn't introductory.

CFMoto also has plans of launching the 300SR, 400NK, 400GT and the 700CL-X in India. You can read all about it here. Its expansion strategy also includes an electric bike that’s currently being worked on.

 

Husqvarna:

It’s a known fact that Swedish manufacturer Husqvarna was all set to enter India. But they changed the ball game by introducing smaller 250cc huskies first. This will be followed by a smaller 200cc Svartpilen in a game plan once employed by its sister brand, KTM. Depending on the response, Husqvarna may introduce the Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 in India. 

 

Revolt:

Revolt became the first AI-based electric motorcycle manufacturer to step foot in India in August 2019. The RV400 and the RV300 brought with it some interesting finance schemes under the My Revolt Plan that lets customers own either of the bikes for a small subscription amount every month.

The second phase of the plan includes introducing a Cafe Racer based on the same platform.

 

Ultraviolette:

Unlike the Revolt RV400, which targets everyday users, the F77 from Ultraviolette is pegged as a bike for enthusiasts with a taste for speed. The Bengaluru-based startup offers the F77 in 3 colour variants:  Lightning, Shadow and Laser. The trio is expected to be priced between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 3.25 lakh (both prices on-road) after FAME-II subsidies. That said, the exact prices have not been revealed just yet. Online registrations to purchase the motorcycle have already begun, with deliveries slated to commence in October 2020.

 

22Kymco:

Taiwanese brand Kymco partnered with 22Motors in India to launch three of its scooters: iFlow, Like 200 and the X-Town 300i. The iFlow, priced at Rs 90,000, gets Kymco’s IONEX swappable batteries and a claimed top speed of 60kmph.

The Like 200, on the other hand, costs Rs 1.30 lakh and features a 163cc single-cylinder motor. While the X-Town 300i, which is a full-fledged maxi scooter, retails at Rs Rs 2.30 lakh (all prices on-road Delhi) is powered by a 276cc single-cylinder fuel-injected liquid-cooled engine. It makes 24.5PS and 25Nm, which should be more than enough to carry its 181kg (dry) weight.

22Kymco will be manufacturing these scooters in India at its Haryana plant. The initial phase includes commencing operations in 6 cities with the aim of over 300 touchpoints in the next three years.
