British sportscar maker Caterham Cars has been acquired by Team Lotus Enterprise, and under the new management the lightweight sportscar manufacturer is expected to expand its product portfolio with exciting offerings.

Caterham Cars are legendary in their own right and have been known for their ability to be rather lightweight, yet offer exhilarating performance. A prime example and possibly the most well known product from the Caterham facility is the Seven. As described, the Seven built upon the repute of the company and has been a car for many a sportscar connoisseur the world over.

With Team Lotus Enterprise acquiring Caterham Cars, the latter gets a fresh breather and as per company spokespersons the immediate agenda is to continue development on the legendary Seven. Apart from this, Lotus and Caterham will work together to come up with exciting models that apply the quintessential philosophy of Caterham of ‘adding lightness’.

Caterham holds a unique place in the motoring world and the British car maker’s contribution to automotive history is also well known. Their ability to stick to Colin Chapman’s philosophy of ‘less is more’ which was first laid down for the original Seven and can still be found in Caterham vehicles today is literally what legends are made of.

Apart from expanding beyond the Seven and the SP/300R, Caterham is also looking at this acquisition as an opportunity to tap into untouched markets and take the brand to a whole set of new audience.  According to company officials, the potential is immense and till date Caterham has been all about protecting one man’s vision and philosophy for over 40 years. As a company, Caterham has survived on the legacy of the Seven, however now it is time to go beyond all this and actually explore unchartered territory, while keeping in sync with the core spirit of the company.
