Tata's third entrant to the sub 4-metre brigade is out of the box and feature-packed

Tata Tigor

Update March 29, 2017: Tata Tigor Launched At Rs 4.70 Lakh

It's D-Day for Tata Motors. The Tiago-based sedan hits showroom floors today. Before we go any further, here are some stories you should check out in case the Tata Tigor is on your buying list.

Tata Tigor

The Tigor enters a space that's been crowded by not two, not three but seven different cars. All follow the same mantra - length under 4 metres, petrol engine up to 1.2 litres, and a diesel mill that's no larger than 1.5 litres. The Tigor borrows the 85PS 1.2-litre 'Revotron' petrol and the 70PS 1.05-litre 'Revotorq' diesel engines from the Tiago to comply with the norms.

Tata's approach to the sub 4-metre space this time round revolves around design. The Tigor is amongst the most proportionate hatch-to-sedan conversions we've seen in the recent past. Finer details worth noting include smoked-out projector headlamps, 15-inch alloy wheels (only the petrol  - sadly) and LED elements in the tail lamps. Some clever engineering has also let Tata lend the Tigor a cavernous 419-litre boot.

Tata Tigor Interior

On the inside, the extra 50mm of wheelbase makes its presence felt in terms of extra legroom. To make matters more comfortable, the Tigor also gets a central armrest with cup holders and extra large headrests. Major additions over the Tiago include automatic climate control and a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other features such as the 8-speaker Harman audio system, height-adjustable driver's seat, tilt-adjustable steering and power windows have been carried over from the hatchback.

The launch is hours away and all that's left to know are the prices. We have our bets placed on a starting price of Rs 4.2 lakh (for the base-spec petrol) going all the way up to Rs 6.5 lakh (for the top-spec diesel).
