Tata Nano's design receives world's oldest and coveted international award

They say 'Good things often come in small packages' and, when we try to relate that sublime  thought to our beloved automotive industry, there is only one car that sparks up in our minds, the Tata Nano.

After rolling out the Nano onto the Indian tarmac in the early part of 2009, Tata Motors biggest challenge then was keeping up with the booking orders for the car, which surpassed 2.03 lakh bookings in less than six months since its official launch.

The car, which became our Viewer's Choice Car of the Year in 2009 has now been bestowed with a far greater global honour in the category of transportation. The Tata Nano has received the world's oldest and most coveted GOOD DESIGN™ Award for 2010, which is conferred annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies (www.chi-athenaeum.org).

GOOD DESIGN, which recently celebrated its 60-year anniversary as the world's oldest and most prestigious awards programme for product and graphic design was rolled over by the Nano's unique structural design, which offers an incredibly spacious passenger compartment which can comfortably seat four adults. Although the Nano has the smallest exterior footprint for a car in India, yet is 21% more spacious than the smallest car available.

Since August this year, the company has already begun open sales of the Tata Nano, and it is already freely available in 12 states. Tata Motors will cover the entire country with open sales by March 2011 to take the Tata Nano to those who dream of owning the car.
