The iV-4 concept that will be available with a 4x4 system is Suzuki's take on the compact SUV segment
A pioneer in the compact SUV segment, Suzuki has previewed its latest attempt at the globally lucrative segment with new iV-4 concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Unlike most new compact SUVs that have been showcased and introduced in markets the Suzuki iV-4 concept is designed to be a true off-roader while also fitting into the urban environment with perfect ease.
The four-wheel drive production model of the iV-4 concept will be armed with the All Grip 4x4 system to equip the upcoming compact SUV with proper off-road credentials using clever electronics as well as mechanical components.
At the same, Suzuki aims to keep the weight of the iV-4 concept to the minimum like in all of its compact SUVs for greater efficiency, reduced emissions and nimble drive dynamics.
Suzuki plans to start production of the iV-4 in 2015 at the company’s Magyar plant in Hungary and will be initially launching the compact SUV in European markets initially.
Considering that the dimensions of the Suzuki iV-4 concept have been measured at 4,215mm in overall length, 1,855mm in overall width, 1,665mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,500mm the compact SUV will have to be slightly altered in design to measure in under 4 meters in length for the Indian market to avail of tax benefits.
With the Ford EcoSport stacking up the numbers on the sales charts here, it will make sense for Suzuki to introduce it’s compact SUV in India. And it has the perfect range of engines for the iV-4 for the Indian market too, with the 1.3 litre diesel motor and 1.2 litre petrol motor doing duty in its current model line-up.
