UPDATE (22nd June, 2017): We've driven the updated version of the sedan! Check out the 2017 Skoda Octavia Facelift Review.
Skoda's big bet for the D-segment, the Octavia gets yet another special edition under its belt. The Czech manufacturer has detailed the Octavia Onyx edition, which will be available across Skoda dealerships for a limited period. The manufacturer hasn't revealed prices yet, but we expect it to cost roughly Rs 30,000 over the equivalent variant.
What's new?
Not much. The limited edition is an aesthetic upgrade only, and there's nothing substantially different to consider it over a standard variant. The Onyx edition features blacked out alloy wheels and wing mirrors, and also gets a trunk lid spoiler.
Commenting on the new edition, Ashutosh Dixit, Director – sales & marketing at Skoda said, “The Skoda Octavia Onyx edition continues its journey with the success of the Octavia model range in India. The Skoda Octavia offers more safety and comfort features compared to products from higher segments. The ONYX edition combines typical strengths of the brand; safety, design, engineering, spaciousness & ‘Simply Clever’ features thus making the Octavia a compelling proposition.“
Other than the exterior detailing, everything remains as is. Notably, the special edition will be made available for the automatic variants only. Engine options include the 1.8-litre petrol motor that belts out 180PS and 250Nm and the 2.0-litre diesel that's good for 143PS and 320Nm. While the former gets a 7-speed DSG, the latter gets a 6-speed unit.
Skoda recently launched the updated Rapid a couple of months ago and is looking at launching its first ever SUV, the Kodiaq later this year. The Czech brand also promised to give us a dose of performance, by confirming the launch of the Octavia RS before the end of this year.
