The Skoda Rapid has been in the market since 2011 and till now had received only a few cosmetic updates. Now after a long wait, Skoda will be finally launching the facelift of the Rapid sedan on November 3. On contacting several dealerships, it has been learned that bookings for the Rapid facelift are being unofficially accepted by few dealerships. A minimum booking amount of Rs 50,000 is being accepted that is completely refundable.
With the facelift, the new Rapid now comes with sharp and chiselled body lines that run throughout the length of the car. Also, it receives new bumpers at both ends. The front grille design, flanked by new headlamp units, follows the brand’s current design language that can be seen on the Octavia and Superb.
Under the hood, Skoda will continue to offer the Rapid with both petrol and diesel engine options. For the petrol variant, the company is likely to continue using the same 1.6-litre motor without any changes. However, for the diesel variant, the car will come with the updated 1.5-litre engine that currently has been introduced in the Ameo diesel. The engine features a slightly larger turbocharger that has been locally sourced and ups the power output to 110PS. Transmission duties will be handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox for both petrol and diesel variant while a 7-speed DSG gearbox will be available only in the diesel variant.
Belonging to the sedan segment, the Skoda Rapid competes against the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City. On the price front, expect the Rapid facelift to carry a price tag that will be higher than the current pricing.
