As we inch closer to the global unveil of the Kodiaq, the Czech manufacturer has fueled the buzz with a set of teaser images of the SUV. The full-size seven-seater behemoth carries trademark Skoda elements and stays true to the crystalline design theme that debuted with the new Skoda Octavia.
While the images are close-ups, they do speak volumes of what to expect. From what we spot, the Kodiaq's signature piece will be the familiar family grille that, surprisingly is devoid of chrome and is finished in a gloss black shade instead. The grille flows out into the sleek headlamps that gets a set of razor-sharp daytime running lamps.
The sharp lines continue on the side, where you'd spot an extremely crisp shoulder line running across the length, vanishing into the tail lamps. Other interesting elements include the bulbous wheel arches and some cool-looking, massive 20-inch alloy wheels. Sadly, expect this to be amongst the first things to be chucked out (and replaced with a set of India-friendly 18-inchers) when the SUV reaches our shores. The rear houses Skoda's signature C-shaped lighting motif, which we've seen earlier in the Superb and the Octavia. We like how the Kodiaq isn't too different from the VisionS concept that it is based on.
Now, you can read our preview of the Skoda Kodiaq here, but let us give you a round-up of what's available. In terms of bells and whistles, expect the whole hog from Skoda. Creature comforts will include leather upholstery, ventilated seats, a touchscreen infotainment system with AppleCarPlay and a whole lot more.
What about the engine, you ask? Well, the India-spec avatar is likely to feature a 2.0-litre TDi motor pumping out 190PS and 400Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed dual clutch transmission. Globally, there are 1.4-litre and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motors on offer as well. The Kodiaq will also feature a four-wheel-drive system and include an off-road mode as well. That said, Skoda isn't positioning the Kodiaq as a hardcore off-roader.
The global unveil is scheduled for September 1. Expect the Skoda SUV to hit our shores next year, and battle the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Trailblazer. Prices are likely to fall between the Rs 27-30 lakh mark.
