Skoda Kushaq Active To Get An Automatic Transmission?

The Skoda Kushaq is currently available in three trims: Active, Ambition, and Style. And as of now, only the last two have automatic transmissions. But there has been a development of sorts. Skoda India has homologated the Kushaq’s base-spec Active with the 115PS 1-litre TSI automatic powertrain with the Delhi RTO. So does this hint at an imminent launch of the Kushaq Active AT? 

Well, not really. Skoda India boss Zac Hollis has made it clear on Twitter that there’s no plan to provide the automatic transmission with the base-spec Kushaq Active at the moment. But the carmaker has homologated the same so that it could be offered in the future.

If launched, it would make the automatic transmission more accessible for customers, considering it could be priced at around Rs 12 lakh (almost Rs 1.5 lakh over the Active MT). At present, the mid-spec Ambition -- with the 1-litre TSI AT -- retails at Rs 14.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Sure, the Kushaq’s mid-level trim justifies the asking price with the additional features on offer, but the Active is decently equipped as well. Highlights include its 7-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a manual air-con, a multi-info display, keyless entry, rear AC vents, and electrically adjustable ORVMs. 

Passenger safety is secured by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control. 

The Kushaq is currently priced between Rs 10.50 lakh and Rs 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom). It has booked 6,000+ units since its launch on June 28 this year. The compact SUV locks horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV700, and the upcoming VW Taigun and MG Astor.
