Both the Chennai riders had a good day at the office in Round 1 of the Asia Road Racing Championship in Malaysia as they scored some valuable points

Sarath Kumar

Indian rider Shankar Sarath Kumar had a great outing in Round 1 of the 017 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship as he scored some valuable points in his debut race. Sarath is riding for RAMA Honda Racing by NTS T.Pro Ten10 team, and is supported by Honda 2Wheelers India. He is competing in the SuperSport 600cc class. The Chennai lad had struggled with knee injury last year and put in extra effort to regain fitness and make an impact this year. He will be pleased with his performance. He was aboard the  Honda CBR 600WR and scored points in both the races of the Malaysian round.

Commenting on his outing, Sarath Kumar said: “Although I fell down in preliminary tests and hurt my right shoulder, I was able to ride without any problem. We communicated well with the new mechanics and I hope to improve step by step. I am happy that I scored points in both the races.”

Rajiv Sethu

Sarath wasn’t the only Indian to have a happy weekend as youngster Rajiv Sethu, also a part of RAMA Honda Racing team, also scored some significant points. The young lad was participating in the Asia Production 250cc class and he also became the first Indian rider to compete on the new Honda CBR250RR. Sethu’s effort is commendable as the Chennai rider barely had any time to test the new race bike and get accustomed to it.

Speaking about his performance, Rajiv Sethu said: “I am thankful to the team for being able to finish the race safely. It was a learning curve for me, racing with quality riders. It was the first time for me and my team and I hope to grow as the season progresses.”

Sarath and Sethu are part of a five-rider contingent in two classes, backed by John Sudheer of RAMA Group of Companies.
