One of India’s most popular bike makers, Royal Enfield has updated two of its motorcycles with fuel injection, in a bid to adhere to the stricter emission norms. Although, there is no official information about the availability of the bikes, as the update can only be seen on the official Royal Enfield website by far. However, dealers are expected to receive stocks of the updated models by May or June, 2017. Another interesting point to note is that the Bullet 500 now gets a minor bump in power figures (0.4Nm and 1.12PS more than the carburetted 500). This takes the Bullet 500 on par with the Classic 500 in terms of performance, at least on paper, as both the bikes now produce 27.5PS of power and 41.3Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm and 4,000 rpm respectively. The Bullet 500 was a bike for the loyalists and featured a carburettor for that old-world charm.
The Himalayan on the other hand, is endowed with only a minor bump in power (0.3PS) and the figures now stand at 24.8PS at 6,500 rpm and 32Nm at 4,250 rpm. The torque output is still the same as the carburetted version. The Himalayan is the first indigenously developed adventure tourer motorcycle in India and as of now also the cheapest adventure bike on sale in India.
Expect a price bump of around Rs 5,000- Rs 7,000 for both the Bullet 500 and Himalayan. The Fuel Injection unit is paired with an ECU (Engine Control Unit) and the advantage over carburettor is that fuel injection facilitates better air-fuel mixture to ensure optimum combustion. With Royal Enfield raking in the numbers consistently in the market, the future of the brand seems bright, thanks to improvement in technology, notwithstanding the rising prices.
