The 1st round of the second edition of the JK Tyre- MMS Rotax Rookie Cup recently concluded amidst loads of excitement and thrilling races at the Hyderabad Kartainment track, where karters from all over the country competed across three categories, namely Micro Max, Junior Max and Senior Max; The new generation of racers taking part in the country's most recognised amateur karting championship gave each other a run for their money, and as always the best of the lot walked away with the top honours.
Hogging the limelight in the Senior Category was Delhi lad Karminder Singh from Team Meco Racing, who after getting off to a terrific start dominated the podium in the first three races of the day, An unfortunate crash in the fifth race prevented Karminder from completing the race, but having amassed a total of 104 points his lead was big enough for him to hold on to his No1 spot. Following him was Mithun Ganatra of Team Mohites Racing with 72 points, while Raj Ganatra from Team Rayo Racing came in the third place with a total of 67 points.
Championship leader, Karminder Singh said. "I'm feeling great after winning the JK Tyre MMS Rotax Rookie Cup. It means a lot to me as I'm a rookie and I performed well in all the races except for Race 5 where I could not finish the race due to a bad crash."
In the Junior Category, Pune lad Gaurav Rajan Davare from Team Mohites Racing is leading the championship with a total of 120 points. Second in the championship is Arjun Chhiba from New Delhi from Team Meco Racing with 80 points. Third in the points table is Ananth Shanmugham from Bangalore from Team Meco Racingwith 63 points.
In the Micro Max category, Gaurav Rakesh Marne from Kolhapur from Team Mohites Racing took the lead in the championship with a total of 120 points on his scorecard. His immediate rival, Akash Gowda from Team Meco Racing displayed a consistent performance and maintained his second position in the grid. He was the one took the lead in Race 3 and reached the podium ahead of Gaurav and came in first. Third in line was Mira Kirti Erda, a girl driver from Baroda from Team Mohites Racing, who ended the day with 70 points to her name.
After his maiden win Gaurav Rakesh Marne from Kolhapur said, “The race was very tough and the competitors in the fray gave each other a neck to neck competition. I gave in my best performance and I’m glad that all my hard work finally paid off. I look forward to the next rounds in Kolhapur.”
The first round of the JK Tyre-MMS Rotax Rookie Cup race saw some brilliant performances by the seasoned as well as the rookie drivers as soon as it started, but heavy rains played spoilsport and the race had to be stopped midway. The excitement continues as the final round of the JK Tyre MMS Rotax Rookie Cup will be held on May 22-23, 2011 in Kolhapur.
