Renault, Nissan surge ahead while Toyota, Mahindra get over diesel car ban to post sales growth

Renault India is perhaps one of the fastest growing automakers in India. The company has sold 11,968 cars in the Indian market in July 2016, as against 1,686 units in the same month back in 2015, growing by a staggering 609.8 per cent! The car maker has sold 73,863 cars from Jan-July 2016 as against 25,032 in the same period in 2015. The result? Sales growth of 195 per cent! Renault has the Kwid and the Duster to thank for the sales success it has posted. Recently, Renault also launched the Lodgy World Edition MPV. Moreover, it also looks to expand its dealership network to 270 by the end of 2016.

Nissan

Nissan has reported sales of 6,418 vehicles in July 2016 as against 2,841 cars in July 2015. If we do the math, that is an amazing 126 per cent growth in terms of sales for the automaker in July 2016 when comparing with the sales in July 2015.

Mahindra and Mahindra

One of India's most popular SUV makers, Mahindra & Mahindra has announced its sales figures for the month of July 2016. It has sold 39,458 vehicles as compared to 34,652 cars during July 2015, growing by 14 per cent in terms of sales.

Mahindra’s Passenger Vehicles segment (UVs, Cars and Vans) sold 17,356 vehicles in July 2016 as against 14,456 cars during July 2015, registering a growth of 20 per cent. Mahindra sold a total of 35,305 vehicles in the Indian market during July 2016, as against 31,087 vehicles during July 2015, a growth of 14 per cent. Its exports stood at 4153 vehicles in July 2016 as opposed to 3,565 units in the corresponding period in 2015, registering growth of 16 per cent. In July 2016, its Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles segment sold 382 vehicles, registering a growth of 22 per cent.

Toyota

In July 2016, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (Toyota) sold a total of 12,404 units in the Indian market and registered 3 per cent growth over its performance in July 2015. Toyota exported 1,344 units of the Etios range in July 2016. In July 2015, Toyota had sold 12,070 cars in the domestic market and exported 1,629 vehicles from the Etios range. In terms of exports growth, Toyota has seen a slump of 17.4 per cent. In terms of domestic sales, Toyota can attribute its sales performance to the Innova Crysta and Camry vehicles. The Innova Crysta has a waiting period of up to 2 months across various locations in India while the Camry is the only hybrid in its class.
