The Renault Kwid has gained a lot of traction in the entry-level passenger car segment since its launch in September 2015. The car has managed to quickly climb the ladder, acquiring the title of second highest selling vehicle in the segment after the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800. Following the success of the Kwid, the French manufacturer will now be launching the more powerful variant of the Kwid on August 22. Renault had showcased the 1.0-litre Kwid at the 2016 Auto Expo held in February.

Talking about the specifications of the 1.0-litre variant, the model will be available in the top-spec RXT and RXT (O) trims. It will be powered by a 999cc 3-cylinder DOHC engine that is capable of producing 68PS of power at 5500rpm, which is 14PS more than the standard Kwid. As far as torque figures are concerned, the new mill will produce 91Nm as compared to 72Nm from the current engine. Transmission duties will be handled by a 5-speed gearbox transmitting power to the front wheels, while an AMT option will be introduced soon. The 1.0-litre engine will return a mileage of 23kmpl as claimed by the company. Other mechanical parts on the new variant will be shared with the current Kwid.

Renault Kwid Interiors

The 1.0-litre variant looks identical to the current Kwid apart from few cosmetic updates such as two-tone grey-coloured OVRMs, designer decals on the doors and the ‘SCe’ badge on the trunk lid. Inside, the interior will be the same with a dual tone dashboard with a chrome-accentuated digital instrument cluster on the right. The centre and side aircon vents get chrome inserts while the seat upholstery is done up in Champion Red.
