Renault Kwid 1.0-litre Bookings Started

The Kwid has turned out to be a very successful product for Renault as it has been making big numbers in the entry-level segment. In the previous month itself, sales of the Kwid has resulted in six-fold growth for Renault in India. Now, the French manufacturer will be launching a 1.0-litre variant of the Kwid, for which booking have reportedly started unofficially. Renault had showcased the 1.0-litre model of the Kwid at the 2016 Auto Expo.

On contacting dealerships in Mumbai, we’ve learnt that bookings for the 1.0-litre variant can be placed with a minimum token amount of Rs 10,000. Also, upon inquiring the expected price of the top-spec model of the Kwid, we’ve learnt that it will be approximately Rs 50,000 more expensive than its 800cc sibling. With the current Kwid already having a waiting period soon after its launch, the 1.0-litre variant is also expected to face a similar waiting period of close to 3 months.  

Under the hood, the current Kwid sold in the market is powered by a 799cc petrol engine that produces 54PS of power and 72Nm of peak torque. In the case of the 1.0-litre variant, Renault has developed a new engine that will have four valves per cylinder with a DOHC configuration. The company has not yet disclosed any power figures, but it is expected to deliver a power output of close to 66PS. The 1.0-litre variant will initially come mated to a 5-speed gearbox and will later be introduced with an AMT option.

Once launched, the 1.0-litre variant of the Kwid will lock horns against the segment leader Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, as well as the Hyundai Eon.
