The Indian arm of French carmaker Renault is one of the fastest-growing automobile brands in India. Two of its blockbuster products – the Duster SUV and the Kwid hatchback – have helped the automaker establish itself as a serious challenger to the likes of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. While the Duster lured customers with its excellent ride quality and fresh design philosophy, the Kwid roared ahead of its competition to become one of the most selling cars in India with its class-leading features, spacious cabin and a frugal 0.8-litre petrol mill.

In what can be worrying news for Kwid owners, Renault India has quietly initiated a recall for all the hatchbacks that were produced up to May 18, 2016. The voluntary recall is to ensure the smooth supply of fuel to the engine. Renault says that a fuel hose pipe clip will be added to the units with a faulty system. Post that, a full evaluation of the overall functionality will be carried out to check for any potential disruption of fuel supply. The company hasn’t shared the exact number of vehicles that will be recalled under this campaign, but has ensured that the entire process of inspecting and fixing (if required) will come at no cost to the customer. Renault India has started contacting customers to ask for a suitable date and time for an appointment.

The Kwid was launched in September 2015 in India with a 0.8-litre engine. However, in August 2016, the French carmaker introduced a more powerful variant of the little hatchback with a 1.0-litre petrol mill. While the 0.8-litre engine Kwid locks horns with the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800, the 1.0-litre variant goes on to worry the K10 variant of the Alto.
