The least-expensive Porsche SUV will take on the Jaguar F-Pace

Porsche Macan R4

If you’ve always fancied a Porsche SUV but didn’t have pockets deep enough to break the Rs 1 crore barrier to buy one, wait until the German automaker launches the Macan R4 on November 15, 2016. Designed to be the least-expensive Porsche SUV till date, it will go up against the entry level model of the recently launched Jaguar F-Pace. Porsche dealerships are already entertaining bookings for the Macan R4 with an amount of Rs 10 lakh.

The Volkswagen-owned carmaker is expected to price the Macan R4 around Rs 76 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), which falls slightly above price of the F-Pace’s base spec (Rs 72.6 lakh). However, petrolheads who want to see a Porsche badge in their garage wouldn’t really care about the minuscule (in their world) price difference. Under the hood, Porsche will equip the R4 variant with a 2.0-litre, four-pot turbocharged petrol mill which will be tuned to pump out 252PS of peak power and 370Nm of max torque. Transmission duties will be handled by a seven-speed dual-clutch auto box, transferring power to all four wheels of the SUV. Porsche claims that the set-up is enough to make the SUV sprint from naught to 100kmph in 6.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 229kmph.

In India, the Macan R4 will be the fourth variant in Macan’s portfolio. Other models include the Macan S diesel, Macan Turbo and Macan Turbo with Performance Package. Although tuned differently to produce distinct power outputs, both the later models are powered by the same 3.6-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine. The Macan S diesel model boasts a six-pot 3.0-litre engine and is priced at Rs 1.06 crore. The Macan Turbo and the Macan Turbo with Performance Package are priced at Rs 1.18 crore and Rs 1.4 crore, respectively (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai).
