China represents the fastest growing market for the Stuttgart-based car maker – second to the U.S. and more important than even home market, Germany. The company sold more than 24,000 units in China in 2011, up 65 percent, which was a new record for Porsche. Of that, the Cayenne turned out to be the most popular car selling 13,283 units. “Porsche is therefore the market leader for sports cars in China,” said, Bernhard Maier, Member, Executive Board Sales and Marketing, Porsche. “From establishment of our subsidiary in 2008 up to today, we have sold 8,831 units of the 911, Boxster and Cayman models in China. Last year, we therefore attained a segment share of 46 percent.”

To meet the high demand, Porsche has planned to expand its dealer network. Three new Porsche Centres have already been opened this year taking the total to 41. The company aims to take the figure to 100 centres by 2015.

The car maker is also building an exclusive customer testing ground adjacent to the Shanghai International Circuit (SIC), home to the Chinese Formula One Grand Prix since 2004. The first Porsche Driving Experience Centre (PDEC) in Asia will cover an area of 100 square kilometres that will contain a test track, slalom and off-road course as well as training rooms for exclusive use by customers and fans of Porsche. Expected to complete by third quarter of 2013, PDEC China will be the third customer testing ground globally after Leipzig and Silverstone in UK.
