Nissan has introduced the facelifted version of the current generation X-Trail in the USA. The Japanese automaker gave us a glimpse of the updated SUV a few days ago through an advertisement and it will go on sale in the States first. Nissan had earlier showcased the pre-facelift model of the SUV at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo. Since the car is being manufactured in Japan, Nissan will be importing the India-bound X-Trail through the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.
Speaking of the design, the SUV has adopted Nissan’s latest V-Motion grille, which is now even bigger than the previous version and packs more into the front bumper, which has also been tweaked. The X-Trail also features a new set of headlights with twin projectors, which also comes with daytime running lights (DRLs). The side profile remains unchanged but, it now has bigger 19-inch alloy wheels. The rear end has also been tweaked with a dual-tone bumper with chrome highlights and a new set of tail lamps.
The 2017 X-Trail's interiors will more or less remain the same as the previous one. The slight upgrades that have been done feature a brand-new flat-bottom steering wheel, new door and instrument panel finishers, new shift knob design, revised centre console and console lid, and new seat fabric.
Mechanically, the USA-bound X-Trail will be powered by its 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor. The Indian variant, the hybrid version of the SUV, will get a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled to an electric motor. The powertrain will be mated to a CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic. The facelifted, India-bound hybrid version will make its debut in the American market before making inroads into the Indian market.
