Today, electric propulsion seems the most viable option for transportation as our non-renewable energy sources get more and more depleted by the day. But most of the electric cars that are being manufactured presently have a simple design and lack speed. Thus, companies that are producing these cars are working on vehicles that can deliver both performance and style. Keeping this aspect in mind Japanese carmaker Nissan, like many of its peers, is hard at work on the development of these battery-powered high-performance cars. Unfortunately, there is still some time before these next-gen cars make their way to showroom floors, as the reports suggest that they are due for a 2020 reveal.

Gareth Dunsmore, head of Nissan Europe's Electric Vehicle (EV) division, said that they are not in any hurry to produce the EV, and also stated “Nissan has the capability of building an electric sports car today, but the market isn’t ready. It’s a gradual thing…As we head towards 2020 you’ll see greater moves towards EVs.”

As of now, the closest thing that Nissan has to an electric sports car is the BladeGlider, the EV sports car prototype which made its debut earlier this month in Brazil. The car has two electric motors, each mated with both the rear wheels, and together produces 268PS of power, which is a lot for an EV. It's just a prototype as of now, but once Nissan starts producing this car, it could change the public’s attitude towards electric vehicles around the world.
