While Nissan has been treading carefully in the Indian market and introducing 'safe' models such as the Micra and Sunny, it's time that they showcase their innovative and quirky side as well. The INVITATION hatch would be a perfect blend of showcasing cutting edge styling, practicality of a small car and the joy of a powerful engine

Competition in India’s B-segment has not just turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the country’s discerning customers, but has also set the benchmark and at the same time helped revive the popularity of international auto brands the likes of Ford and Nissan with products like the Figo and the Micra.

The Micra has been and continues to be Nissan’s pillar of strength in India and while that’s making hay as the sun shines international auto conventions the likes of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show blurs out the present and pompously showcases the future.

Where Nissan is concerned that future has taken shape in the form of the Invitation hatchback; an all new-compact car concept with design cues that reek of aggression and youthfulness. As pioneers of high end comfort and convenience technology features (Auto Start Stop/ Keyless Entry) in India’s small car segment with the Micra, it’s only fair that Nissan builds on that tradition with the introduction of an advanced compact design like the INVITATION.

If features like an advanced around-view monitor (AVM) that make reversing and parallel parking a stress-free chore in the city actually end up into the production ready package of this ‘inviting’ proposition from Nissan, then consider it yet another ‘first time on a B-segment car’ on the company’s record sheet.

From what we see in its preliminary form and function, the Invitation isn’t merely a looker for the future of this diversified segment of cars but caters to both the growing need to protect the environment (100g/km CO2 emission) as well as offer city goers ample interior space and ease of drivability.

The Nissan INVITATION is to be launched in the UK by 2013, and will be manufactured at Nissan's Sunderland Plant in the UK alongside one of its popular B-segment crossover, the Juke. You can start your India countdown thereafter.
