Spy shots of the 250cc motorcycle reveal the design of the India-bound next-gen YZF-R3

Last month, we reported that Yamaha was developing the next-gen R25 for various Asian markets, including Indonesia. Later, rendered images published by Motor Plus gave us a fair idea of what the next-gen 250cc motorcycle could look like. However, we had no idea how close the images the would be to the final production model. Now, thanks to the folks at Macantua, a motoring portal, we’ve finally managed to catch a glimpse of test mules of the next-gen motorcycle.

Although the YZF-R25 will not make it to India, expect the next-gen R3, which is expected to be unveiled alongside the 250cc motorcycle next year, to look exactly the same. The latest spy shots give us an insight into some of the details such as the front end, which shares design cues with the R15 V3. So expect the next-gen R25 and R3 to feature full-LED split headlamps with a ram air intake between the two. Both motorcycles are also likely to feature a fully digital instrument cluster as well.

The images also suggest that Yamaha will be setting aside conventional forks that are offered with the current-gen R3 for a more modern upside-down unit. That said, we won’t be surprised if the Japanese bike manufacturer continues to offer the older setup in India to keep costs in check. Apart from the above mentioned changes, expect both motorcycles to be offered with a new colour scheme and body graphics too.

The current-gen R3 uses a 321cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, inline, 2-cylinder engine that produces 42PS at 10750rpm and 29.6Nm of peak torque at 9000rpm. However, with competition in the 300cc segment getting fiercer by the day, it’s logical to assume that the R3 will probably sport a more powerful motor with variable valve actuation (VVA) and a slipper clutch.

The current-gen YZF-R3 retails for Rs 3,48,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). Considering all the updates, expect the 300cc motorcycle to get a slight bump in prices.

The YZF-25 is expected to launched in various Asian markets next year. However, it is unlikely to come to India. The R3, on the other hand, will make it to India and we expect the bike manufacturer to unveil it alongside the YZF-R25.
