The all-new Toyota Fortuner that has been revealed internationally has been spied testing in India for the first time. The car is covered in camouflage wrap, but we have a fair idea of how the SUV looks like from the pictures of the Thai and Australian versions of the car, where it was launched a few months back.

The camouflaged skin covers all of the car's exterior cues and the only properly visible element of the car are the wheels. The diamond cut twin six-spoke wheels look good, however, they appear to be of a smaller diameter as compared to the Fortuner available in foreign markets. But, as this is just a test mule, we could see bigger wheels with the production car, at least the size of the Ford Endeavour.

The next-gen Fortuner is expected to be launched in the first half of 2017. The car was earlier expected to be launched by the end of this year, but to keep the costs down the manufacturer will be localising the car's production in the country and hence the delay in launch. After all, it will be competing against the Ford Endeavour, which is quite handsomely priced for the amount and number of features it offers.

The current generation of the Fortuner do offer a plethora of variant options to choose from, but misses out on many new technologies like the advanced infotainment system of the Endeavour. The next-gen Fortuner will fill these gaps and even more so with its new age exterior and interior designs.

Under the hood, the all new Fortuner will get a new and more efficient set of motors, which would be a modified version of the same motors available in the Innova Crysta. The 2.4-litre diesel could produce around 144PS of power, while the 2.8-litre one could develop around 175PS, just like the Innova. Moreover, since the Innova Crysta is available with a 2.7-litre VVT-i petrol engine, the same could be expected with the new Fortuner as well.
